BODYBOARDING BANNED IN NEW YORK

In a Footloose like situation, a somewhat bizarre decision by the New York Parks Department was been made that has now outlawed bodyboarding in the Big Apple state. The decision comes in the wake of two young children being swept away on bodyboards during Augusts Bertha swell. As tragic as that situation is, why pick on the humble sponge? Because the state considers them a ‘floatation device’ rather than a watercraft. Meaning that bodyboarders are now classed in the same category as people who turn up to beaches with inflatable mattresses etc, of which are also banned. Reports of lifeguards exercising their authority in regards to the ban have already began emerging, regardless of the riders experience, locality and the surf conditions. Protest planning is currently underway.
